Orange Decides Future of 119-Unit Proposed Housing Complex

The housing units were pitched to be constructed at the Firelight Plaza, which is at the corner of Racebrook Road and Old Tavern Road.

There will be no large-scale housing complex coming to the Firelight Plaza, which has been largely empty since Racebrook Wine and Liquor left.

The Orange Times reports that the Plan and Zoning Commission voted against allowing amended regulations that would have allowed for 119 units of housing to be built, which would have included a small amount of commercial space too.

Opposition largely centered on the fact that the project seemed out of character for the town, and a village concept is more endorsed by large cities, reports the Orange Times.

Specifically, one building would have been five-stories tall. The applicant was undecided as to whether he’d be willing to bring back revised plans.
