Orange Middle School Opening May Be Delayed

Depending upon Hurricane Irene's actions, the first day of school may not take place on Tuesday.

Kathleen Fuller-Cutler, Principal of Amity Middle School - Orange Campus released the following information on Friday:

Superintendent of Schools John Brady, is keeping a close eye on the track of Hurricane Irene and has been sending out e-mails.

School is scheduled to open for students on Tuesday, Aug. 30.  A teacher-only day is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 29.

If Hurricane Irene forces us to close or delay the opening of school, we will communicate the closure through media outlets in the same manner that we communicate closures and cancellations during snow events. Below are the possible scenarios for cancellations or delays:

  • If Hurricane Irene forces us to cancel the teacher-only day, students will begin school as planned on Tuesday, August 30, and seventh graders will be expected to arrive at 7:30 am and eighth graders at 9:30 am
  • If school is cancelled on Tuesday, Aug. 30, we will run the staggered opening on the first day school opens; seventh graders will be expected to arrive at 7:30 a.m. and eighth graders at 9:30 a.m. A double bus run will again be provided.
  • If there is a two-hour delay on the opening day of school (Tuesday, Aug. 30, or any day thereafter), all students will be expected to arrive at school at 9:30 am.

We hope for the best case scenario.
