EEE: New Details On Orange Parks & Rec's Town Field Curfews

The curfew is in effect until further notice. Three people have died in Connecticut in recent weeks from eastern equine encephalitis.

ORANGE, CT — The Orange Department of Parks & Recreation has imposed a curfew on town field usage in light of concerns over eastern equine encephalitis, the mosquito-borne virus that has claimed the lives of three Connecticut residents.

In a post on Wednesday on the department's Facebook page, no town fields can be used after 5:30 p.m.

In an email to Patch, Parks & Rec Director Dan Lynch offered more details about the curfew:

  • The Orange Little League is suspending evening activities at the Old Tavern Road Sports Complex from 5:30 p.m. until dawn
  • The Orange Soccer Association and the Amity Youth Lacrosse programs are ending all practices/games at Fred Wolfe Park at 6:30 p.m. or before

"And our department is not giving out any field permits for the fields at the High Plains Community Center or the school fields after 5:30 p.m.," Lynch said.

Town officials are encouraging all residents use precautions while outdoors, such as using bug spray and wearing long pants/sleeves.

"These precautions will remain in effect until further notice and the leagues/programs will update practice/game schedule changes as soon as they become available," Lynch said.
