ORANGE, CT — An Orange police officer is recuperating at home after suffering lower body injuries Thursday night when he was struck by a vehicle while responding to a report of a possible car fire, according to Orange police officials.

Officer Chris Brown, a 10-year veteran of the Force who also handles a department police dog, was treated at Yale New Haven Hospital following the 10:06 p.m. crash, and was released from the hospital early Friday morning.

"Miraculously, Officer Brown did not suffer any apparent broken bones or serious internal injuries from the collision," wrote officials on the department's Facebook page. "The total extent of his injuries are still not known."

According to police, Brown was dispatched to Marsh Hill Road to assist firefighters on a report of a disabled vehicle that was possibly on fire near the Outback Steakhouse.

"Upon arrival, no fire was visible to the vehicle that was stopped in the center lane of the southbound side of Marsh Hill Road," police said. "As Officer Brown approached the driver’s side of the vehicle, he was struck by a white 2013 Nissan Rogue driven by Arthur Schultz (age 76) out of Stratford, CT that was traveling S/B in the left turn lane of Marsh Hill Road."

"Thank you for all the well wishes and please respect Officer Brown and his family's privacy," police said.
