Orange Train Station Project A Casualty Of State Budget Crisis

The state has already sunk millions of dollars into the project but is pulling the plug, according to reports.

ORANGE, CT — The state's budget crisis has claimed another victim, the long-discussed Orange train station which was supposed to be built off of Marsh Hill Road. The New Haven Register reports that despite the fact the state already spent $8 million on the project, the state nixed it because the full price tag would have approached $60 million.

In a letter from the state Department of Transportation to Orange officials it says, “The department is not in a financial position to proceed with negotiations for or participate in the contemplated Orange Transit Oriented Development.”

The failed train station project also means that a planned 200 apartment unit complex, parking garage and hotel are also scrapped, the Register reports. And this decision also means the Milford train station will remain packed as the waiting list for parking remains in the hundreds there and the Orange station would have helped alleviate some congestion there.
