Orange's Deal To Purchase Train Station Property Collapses

Here are the main reasons why the deal collapsed between town and state officials.

ORANGE, CT — A proposed deal in which the state would give Orange a $6.1 million grant to purchase six acres of land on Marsh Hill Road that was once supposed to be a train station is now off the rails, the New Haven Register reports late Thursday.

The state money has been pulled for Orange. Orange residents had approved of the land purchase at a prior town meeting but then the state demanded certain requirements, including that if the land were to be developed for housing it would have to be affordable housing, the Register reports. The Register also reports that politics may have scuttled the deal too.
