Post 127 Wins Last Home Game

Orange record at 8-14 before final games.

Orange Post 127 pitcher Adam Kyasky needed only 1 hour, 35 minutes and 83 pitches to hurl an 8-0 3-hitter at Stratford PAL Friday night. Kyasky went the distance. In addition to allowing only 3 hits, he struck out 10, walked 2, and also hit a batter.  It was Post 127’s final home appearance of the summer at Brinley Field. They end their season Saturday morning with a double header at Stratford’s Penders Field. Heading into their final appearances of the season, Orange sits at 8-14 while Stratford PAL sinks lower into the Zone 2 cellar with its 3-19 record.

“This was a nice win,” Post 127 Coach Bob Mirto said. “Adam pitched a very good game.  We played errorless defense and we got timely hitting. It’s no secret. When you do all 3 facets of the game well, you are going to win a lot of ball games. Adam has a good curve, a nice change, and a live fastball. He mixes his speeds well and hits his spots. In addition to all that, no matter what pitch he throws, it looks the same coming out of his hand, so the batter can’t anticipate the type of pitch Adam is throwing.”

Stratford opened the game with Alex Tyler and Mike Cody beating out back-to-back infield singles, but Kyasky retired the next 3 batters he faced and allowed only 1 other hit during the remainder of the game.  Post 127 wasted no time jumping on Stratford starting pitcher Ryan Mucherino for 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Brian Kernan led off and slashed a double into the left field corner. Nick Baviello followed with a 1-out, RBI single into right center field. After moving around to third on a 2-base throwing error by PAL third baseman Nick DeTulio, Baviello raced home when the ball skipped by catcher Carl Russo.

After wasting Matt DeCapua's 2-out single in the top of the second inning, things went from bad to worse for Stratford in the bottom of the same stanza. The Orange 5-run assault began with Brian Diaz and Jim Martino banging out consecutive 1-out singles. After Mucherino loaded the bases by hitting Kernan with a pitch, Mark Boland singled home 2 runs and Baviello added an RBI base hit that extended Orange’s lead to 5-0. Baviello stole home and Boland raced home on a wild pitch, extending the Post 127 lead to 7-0.

The winners added a final score in the bottom of the fourth inning. Free passes to Kernan and Baviello were sandwiched around Boland’s second single of the night. With the bases loaded and no one out, Kernan scored easily on Ted Ballou’s sacrifice fly to deep left field.
