Reading is The Key At The Goddard School
Local Author talks to students about how she makes her books — from original idea to publishing.
Melody Ramos and Sue Cimminello, co-directors at Goddard School are excited about a visitor coming to talk with students today.
The school on Old Tavern Road, which specializes in early childhood learning, focuses on literacy. "It's the foundation with which a child learns in all areas," Ramos said.
So, a visit from author Janet Lawlor, of Milford is right on track with the children's daily lessons.

Lawlor will tell the 3 to 6 year olds how she created her book, "If Kisses Were Colors," from coming up with an idea, to illustrations and what words to use before going to the publisher.
For the community, this is not just an in-school event, the public is welcomed to bring their Pre-K children in at 9:30 a.m. today to meet Lawlor — just call ahead to 203-795-5575 to let them know you are coming.

About Goddard
School Director Kimberly Kick oversees the center which accepts children from 6 weeks to 6 years old. All of the classrooms are print rich, with photos, labels on nearly every item and every child is taught in an age appropriate style.
No one is left out, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese give these children a step ahead when they enter the mainstream school system.
Cimminello said the children even write their own books, including illustrations.
According to Ramos even the youngest children begin learning before they can talk while being exposed to creativity through a sensory experience.
After six years of serving the Orange community, some residents are still unaware of what Goddard is all about.
Come in today and see for yourself during this open house event.
