Restaurants in Orange - Bear & Grill

Prompted by a lot of emails, another review was in order.

Bear & Grill has been in Orange since November, 2007.  This trip, I made with Joe Oleschuk,  20 year veteran of the Orange Volunteer Fire Association and big eater who pays attention to details.

We were promptly greeted with a smile and asked if we had any seating preference.  We asked the hostess, Stacey, if she had any recommendations for dinner and she suggested starting in the bar area and start off with the happy hour Blackened Chicken Skewers for an appetizer and then go to a table for dinner.  It was an excellent suggestion and got things off to a good start.

The Chicken Skewers are only available in the bar during happy hour.  They were excellent.  4 Skewers of tender juicy chicken breast, blackened spices and a cajun rub.  If you like things on the spicy side, you don't want to miss these.

After that we headed into the dining area where we were greeted by Sherman.  Again warm and friendly, he treated us and all of his guests like family, taking the time to discuss items on the menu.  Almost immediately after ordering he brought over a basket of fresh hot baked rolls and butter.  The rolls were crunchy outside and soft and light inside.

Within minutes, the salad arrives.  A crisp cold mixture of lettuce, carrots, cucumber and tomatoes.  Farm fresh with the dressing served on the side.  I didn't ask, but the dressing tasted house made.  It was a nice size for a dinner salad.

Next, the Pan Seared Grouper.  Moist, flaky, the coating was light and enhanced the flavor.  The lemon butter sauce added to the overall flavor.  If you haven't tried Grouper, them you should treat yourself.  It was served with mixed vegetables, nicely steamed and rice, both fantastic.

Finally, the Honey & Apple Glazed Baby Back Ribs.  Fall off the bone? — Absolutely.  Tender, moist, great flavor.  The glaze gave them a little sweetness, but was not overpowering at all, allowing the flavor of the ribs to stand out.  Nicely done.  They were served with crisp and tender fries and cole slaw that was crisp and not overly creamy.  It had a hint of horseradish which added to the flavor.

The experience this time was fantastic from start to finish, the only problem was the dessert menu had so many good selections and I had no room left to try any.  Overall for atmosphere, service, food and value, I strongly recommend Bear & Grill.  Rating 9.5
