Suspect Gives Police a Relative's Name and is Charged: Police

Orange police say the suspect was pulled over for a distracted driving offense, which escalated into criminal charges.

Orange police say officers learned that the arrestee, Timothy Donzella, 27, of Summer Street in Torrington, was in custody at the Torrington Police Department on an unrelated matter.

He was transferred to Orange Police Department headquarters and processed on a warrant on Dec. 8.

The warrant stemmed from a traffic ticket he received on August 22 for using a cell phone while driving.

At the time of the traffic stop, the arrestee allegedly gave the officer the personal information of a relative as his, and the ticket was issued in the name of that relative, police said.

When the relative was contacted by traffic court, he realized he had been the victim of an impersonation, police said.

Investigation led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Donzella who is charged with criminal impersonation, interfering with an officer, and using a cell phone will driving. He was released on a promise to appear.
