Update: Fire at Greenwich Housing Complex Likely Caused by Broken Christmas Tree Light

The fire broke out this morning when a Christmas tree caught on fire.

A fire was reported at the Wilbur Peck Court Housing development in Greenwich this morning.

The fire broke out at approximately 9 a.m. when a natural Christmas tree caught fire inside an apartment at the complex. The fire is still under investigation by the Greenwich Fire Marshals office but the most likely ignition source is a broken Christmas tree light bulb

According to polce, the residents of the apartment left the apartment for work leaving the lights illuminated on the tree.

The second floor fire damaged the apartment, which suffered both smoke and water damage and the unoccupied apartment directly below the fire also suffered significant water damage from the sprinkler system that extinguished the fire. No one was home at the time of the fire.

No one was injured during the fire, however the residents of both apartments were displaced as a result.
