Witness Follows DUI Orange Man Whose Vehicle Struck Mailbox, Tree Stump: Police

A witness followed the accused in their vehicle and called 911 about an erratic driver, police said.

ORANGE, CT — An Orange man is accused of hitting a mailbox and a tree, while driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. Police said at 11:20 a.m. officers responded to the area of Ridge Road and Meetinghouse Lane regarding an erratic driver.

Norbert Mayer's vehicle was found off the roadway, on the grass and with its front end damaged and resting against a large tree stump, police said. A witness said they followed Mayer after seeing his vehicle crash into a mailbox and he kept driving, police said.

Officers' investigated and said Mayer was driving while under the influence and that he evaded responsibility after crashing into the mailbox, police said.
