Accident Shuts Down Route 67 in the Center of Town

Woman taken to the hospital after woman drives off the side of the road.

A portion of Route 67 in the center of town is shut down after a car accident earlier this evening.

A 35-year-old woman from Derby, whose name could not be determined, was taken to the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven after driving off the side of the road, striking a utility pole and driving into a gully, said Resident Trooper Sgt. Dan Semosky.

He said Route 67, between Chestnut Tree Hill Road Extension and Seth Den Road, is shut down and will be for several hours; it will probably reopen after midnight. As of 9 p.m., traffic was being diverted around the accident, and Connecticut Light & Power crews were working on the busted utility pole, Semosky said. At that same time, CL&P had no power outages for Oxford listed on its online outage map.

Another head-on car accident that involved injuries also occurred near Route 188 on the Oxford and Southbury line in Oxford tonight, causing traffic to be diverted, Semosky said. He had no further information about that accident.

Police reports on both incidents were not completed as of the time this article was posted.
