After Election Win, Oxford First Selectman Vows to Cut Taxes: Report

Oxford GOP First Selectman George R. Temple easily won a majority of votes in last night’s election.
Temple, 69, defeated his opponent Kathy Johnson by an unofficial tally of 2,134 to 1,576, according to the Registrar of Voters office.
Johnson served as first selectman of Oxford between 2001 and 2003, according to the Republican-American.

“It’s very gratifying the trust that the voters have shown in me, not just tonight but in the past,” said Temple via the Republican-American.
Temple saw issues differently than his opponent, especially the controversial power plant, according to the Republican-American. Temple has been a big proponent of the power plant saying it will bring thousands of jobs to Oxford and help reduce the tax rate.

Temple vowed to reduce taxes, the Rep-Am reports. GOP Selectman Jeffrey Haney, defeated Democrat Peter Bunzl 2,120 to 1,565. according to the Registrar of Voters office.
Susan O’Brien, Amy Cote, Diane Soracco, and Stephen Brown were elected to the Oxford Board of Education.
