American Red Cross Need You (And Your Blood) This Saturday!

Summer is a difficult time of the year for blood donations and the American Red Cross needs your help. This Saturday the Oxford Girl Scouts are holding a blood drive to help stock their shelves. The blood drive is on Saturday, June 14th from 9:30am-2:15pm at Oxford Center School.

The American Red Cross stated that summer is a tough time of the month for donations due to family vacations, weddings and holidays which all severely impact the supply. They are not only seeking blood donations, but need platelet donors as well. While all blood types are sought, blood types O-negative, B-negative and A-negative are especially in need.

To be a blood donor, individuals must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be symptom free of cold, flu and allergies, have not donated blood in the last 56 days and be in general good health.

Due to the requirements of the American Red Cross to be a donor, only 38% are approved. But there are other ways to help such as hosting a blood drive, volunteering, donating financially and more. Click here for more information.

To make an appointment call the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED CROSS 1-800-733-2767.
