Oxford Police Warn Of Voting Scam Calls Ahead Of Town Referendum

Officials said residents have reported receiving scam phone calls falsely claiming there are problems with their voter registrations.

OXFORD, CT — Oxford Resident Trooper's Office has warned residents about scam phone calls falsely claiming there are problems with their voter registration ahead of Thursday’s town referendum.

The Resident Trooper’s Office has received several reports of scammers telling residents their voter registrations have been compromised or contain issues, according to a Facebook post.

Police urged residents not to provide personal information over the phone.

Officials noted the timing of the calls — just before the referendum — could be intended to create panic or confusion among voters.

Residents with questions about their voter registration status were advised to contact Oxford Town Hall directly and speak with Ellen Fox or Linda Crowe.

Police also encouraged residents to share the warning with friends, family members and neighbors, particularly seniors who are often targeted by scams.
