OXFORD, CT — Oxford residents are invited to mark America250with a community celebration at Jackson Cove featuring a public reading of the Declaration of Independence, an All-American picnic and family activities.
The free event is scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, at Jackson Cove, 26 Jackson Cove Road. The picnic begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Declaration reading at 6 p.m., according to an event announcement shared by Oxford CT Republicans.
The celebration will also include live music by Acoustic Brew, games, crafts and a patriotic dessert contest.
The event is part of the broader America250 commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the nation’s founding. Connecticut’s America250 listings note that communities are holding public readings of the Declaration on July 8 as part of a nationwide “Spirit of America” effort tied to the anniversary of the document’s first public reading.
Organizers said the event is intended as a chance for residents to reflect on the country’s founding ideals while celebrating the Oxford community.
