OXFORD, CT — Old Sawmill Miniature Golf marked its grand reopening over the weekend, nearly two years after devastating flooding threatened the future of the longtime Oxford business.
The Route 67 course celebrated its grand reopening Saturday, July 25, after holding a soft reopening in June. The business is located at 345 Oxford Road.
The Oxford First Selectman's Office congratulated the Turcott family and said Gov. Ned Lamont joined the celebration as the family officially reopened the business.
"We are so happy to see Old Sawmill Mini Golf back up and running and welcoming families once again," the First Selectman's Office wrote in a post. "On behalf of the Town of Oxford, congratulations, and we wish the Turcott family continued success for many years to come."
The reopening caps a long recovery for the family-owned business after the Aug. 18, 2024 flooding that caused heavy damage across parts of southwestern Connecticut.
According to a GoFundMe organized after the flooding, Al and Linda Turcott opened the Olde Sawmill Miniature Golf Course and Grill in 1994 as a retirement passion project. The fundraiser said the flood dislodged the golf shack, damaged about half of the course and destroyed the former restaurant building.
The fundraiser said the damage threatened the future of the seasonal business and was organized by Al Turcott's daughter, Allison Blakeman, and his granddaughter, Brittany, to help with cleanup and recovery.
Old Sawmill Miniature Golf announced a soft reopening June 13, saying a grand opening would follow later. The business said it is cash only and listed its new phone number as 475-316-5846.
The First Selectman's Office encouraged residents to stop by, play a round and support the local family-owned business.
