Burglary, Vandalism, Motorcycle Accident in Police Blotter

The following information was provided by the Oxford Resident Trooper's Office in the blotter from Sept. 31 to Oct. 3. Where arrests are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Police have responded to the following calls:

Police received a complaint from someone on Route 67 in Oxford who claims his or her garage was broken into and several items of “large value” were stolen, according to a police report filed over the weekend at the Oxford Resident Trooper’s Office.

The report made available to the public did not state what items were stolen or whether the incident occurred at a residence or at a business. Police could not immediately be reached for comment about the case on Monday.

In a separate report, police said they are also investigating an incident on Tram Drive where a homeowner states that his vehicle was vandalized in his driveway while he was on vacation. The report about does not describe the type or extent of damage to the vehicle.

Police are investigating both cases and ask anyone with information to call the Resident Trooper’s Office at 203.888.4353. All calls will be kept confidential.

Police, firefighters and emergency medical services responded to a motorcycle accident on Sunday afternoon when a Shelton man struck a large pot hole on Silano Drive and tipped the bike, according to a police report.

Jay Torreso, 46, of Shelton, lost control of the motorcycle after hitting the pot hole and fell off, but he sustained only a minor ankle injury, emergency responders said. Oxford Ambulance took him to St. Vincent’s Hospital for evaluation and possibly treatment. Police found no fault in the incident and took no enforcement action.

A local man was charged with failure to appear last week after police discovered he had a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear in court after police pulled the man over in Oxford for a motor vehicle infraction, according to a police report.

Cornelius A. Venable, 37,  of 2 Krystalle Lane, Oxford, was also driving with a suspended license, the report states.

He was charged with failure to appear and driving without a license. He was released on a $2,500 bond.
