Seymour Public Library

The Seymour Library welcomes again the historian John Cilio. Mr. Cilio will speak on how the Colonists viewed the events up to and during the political upheaval leading to the military action by the British. 
The British efforts to unite the colonies two decades earlier as well as the colonial power struggle and the political and domestic issues that defined the&nbsp; era will be examined.A discussion of the Treaty of Paris (the signing of which officially ended the war) and brief overview of the two constitutions established in the aftermath will be delved into. Mr. Cilio uses primary and secondary sources as he focuses in on the viewpoints and mindsets as the Colonists gear up to the inevitable fight for independence.Call the Library at 203-888-3903 for more information on this program. Come on down!Join us at the Seymour Library on July 8th for a special 250th Independence themed trivia night with Trivia Host David the local founder and creator of Sticker Book Publishing.Doors open at 6:15 pm and the fun starts at 6:30 pm. Bring your family, your friends or just come--teams and individuals are welcome! If you are coming as an individual and want to be matched with a team the Library can do that! Prizes will be awarded to the winning team or person.This is a free event and registration is highly suggested but walk-ins are welcome. Participation is required if attending. Join the Oxford Cultural Arts Commission for a special four-part plein air painting series at Oxford Blooms, where artists will gather throughout the summer to capture the changing landscape of this beautiful garden space. By returning to the same location over the course of the season, participants will have the opportunity to document how light, color, and plant life evolve from early summer into late season bloom.Artists are encouraged to bring their own supplies and work in any medium—painting, drawing, watercolor, pastel, or sketching. Whether you’re a seasoned plein air painter or simply curious about trying something new, artists of all levels are warmly welcome.Each session will run 5:30 PM until sunset, allowing participants to enjoy the golden evening light while creating alongside fellow artists in a relaxed, supportive environment.Bring your materials, find a view that inspires you, and watch the summer unfold one painting at a time.

Join the Oxford Cultural Arts Commission for Gather &amp; Groove, a welcoming community drum circle led by local facilitator Ken Parker.
Together we’ll explore rhythm as a way to connect, relax, and create something spontaneous as a community. Drum circles are open to everyone—whether you’ve been playing percussion for years or have never picked up a drum before. Ken will help guide the circle so that each participant can find their place in the rhythm as the groove builds and evolves.
Participants are encouraged to bring a drum, shaker, bucket, or any object that makes a joyful sound. A limited number of instruments will also be available to borrow, so newcomers are always welcome 
All ages and experience levels are invited to join. Come for a few minutes or stay for the whole circle as we gather, listen, and let the rhythm carry us.
