Join paranormal investigator Barry Pirro as he explores the mysterious history of the Ouija board, and tells tales of hauntings and murders associated with using the board. Participants will also have a chance to ask Barry questions about his experiences as a ‘ghost hunter’, and to share their own true ghost stories and Ouija board stories.

Join the Oxford Cultural Arts Commission for Gather &amp; Groove, a welcoming community drum circle led by local facilitator Ken Parker. Together we’ll explore rhythm as a way to connect, relax, and create something spontaneous as a community. Drum circles are open to everyone—whether you’ve been playing percussion for years or have never picked up a drum before. Ken will help guide the circle so that each participant can find their place in the rhythm as the groove builds and evolves. Participants are encouraged to bring a drum, shaker, bucket, or any object that makes a joyful sound. A limited number of instruments will also be available to borrow, so newcomers are always welcome All ages and experience levels are invited to join. Come for a few minutes or stay for the whole circle as we gather, listen, and let the rhythm carry us.

SEYMOUR, CT —On Monday, June 1st, Great Hill United Methodist Church will host its second Open Mic Night and Bluegrass Jam in the Fellowship Hall. The evening is free, open to the public, and hosted by the recently appointed 19th Connecticut State Troubadour, Charlie Widmer.
The event kicks off at 6:00 PM with an Open Bluegrass Jam led by renowned fiddler and CT Arts Hero Austin Scelzo. This jam is designed for players of all levels—from beginners taking their first steps in a group setting to seasoned pickers. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Connecticut State Troubadour Continues New Monthly Open Mic and Bluegrass Jam in Seymour

At 7:00 PM, the floor opens for the Open Mic, a welcoming space for musicians, poets, and storytellers to showcase their craft. To ensure a variety of voices are heard, performers are invited to share up to two selections or a 10-minute set. Spectators are encouraged to attend and enjoy the performances.
"This is a chance to share what makes the Valley special and connect with like-minded individuals," says Widmer. "Adding the bluegrass jam with Austin creates a full evening of community music-making that we hope will become a staple for local artists."
Complimentary coffee, tea, and light refreshments will be provided.

About Charlie Widmer: Charlie Widmer is a Swiss-American singer-songwriter and the current Connecticut State Troubadour. Known for his multi-genre versatility, he performs regularly across the region and is a dedicated advocate for the arts in Connecticut.
About Austin Scelzo: Austin Scelzo is a multi-instrumentalist, educator, and founder of the Connecticut Bluegrass Association. A recipient of the 2023 Connecticut Arts Hero award, he is a prominent figure in the New England bluegrass community.

The Seymour Library welcomes again the historian John Cilio. Mr. Cilio will speak on how the idea of an individual's freedom and a nation's freedom grew from concepts present in the Colonists' print media and everyday interactions.The Colonists' concept of freedom grew organically from concepts present in the print media of the time. Mr. Cilio will look into the early days of the Revolution--he will use primary and secondary sources as he focuses in the viewpoints and mindset as the Colonists' gear up to the inevitable fight for independence.The presentation will show how sermons from various states and church ministers, newspaper articles of the time and taverns served as lively hubs that encouraged Colonists to consider rebellion and ultimately self-governance as their best options for respect, independence and meaningful survival on their own collective terms.Call the Library at 203-888-3903 for more information on this program. UCC Southbury invites the community to join them for the 50th Annual Southbury Strawberry Festival on the spacious Church Green, located at 283 Main Street North, in Southbury, CT, to be held on Saturday, June 6th, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm (rain or shine).
There will be fresh strawberry shortcakes with homemade whipped cream, live music by Band o’ Brothers, Nick Depuy and Adelaide Punkin, assorted baked goods, grilled foods and Food Trucks including Cousins Maine Lobster and Red Apple Catering with Ben &amp; Jerry’s Ice Cream on hand. Also featuring raffle prizes, Kids Zone bouncy house, games and activities, and 40 different vendors and artisans for interested shoppers.
