MAY 18, 2026&nbsp; PASTEL DEMONSTRATION BY CHRISTINE IVERS Christine Ivers is presenting a Pastel Demonstration hosted by the Shelton Art League at 1 pm on May 18, 2026 at the Shelton Community Center, 41 Church Street, Shelton, CT, 2FL, Rm #2.&nbsp; The league’s general meeting starts at 11:45 am.&nbsp; In 1973 Christine received a BFA in painting and two-dimensional design from Hartford Art School and preceded to work in the advertising field for over 40 years, eventually returning to her passion for pastels and oils.&nbsp; Her work has been described as vibrant and textural with dynamic light. The effects she achieves can run the gamut between high contrast and a gentle softness. She is the Past-President of the CT Pastel Society, holding Signature Artist Membership, a Master Pastelist of the Pastel Society of America, and an Elected Artist Member at Lyme Art Association, Allied Artists of America, Audubon Artists, and Academic Artists of America.&nbsp;She was inducted into the IAPS Eminent Pastelists in 2022 and a member of numerous other art organizations.&nbsp; Her work has won many awards across the country and is part of private and public collections.

Seymour Library welcomes back the historian John Cilio. Mr. Cilio will talk on Connecticut's own patriot&nbsp; Roger Sherman. Roger Sherman was invaluable to the young nation as a masterful debater, negotiator and keen legal mind.With his family in New Milford, Connecticut and his work as a lawyer in Litchfield County, Roger Sherman entered politics as he was selected to the Connecticut General Assembly in 1755. Sherman, always unwavering in his support for independence from British rule, is the only person to sign all four great state papers of the United States: the Continental Association, The Declaration of Independence, The Articles of Confederation and the Constitution.Call the Library at 203-888-3903 for more information about this program. Join the Oxford Cultural Arts Commission for Gather &amp; Groove, a welcoming community drum circle led by local facilitator Ken Parker. Together we’ll explore rhythm as a way to connect, relax, and create something spontaneous as a community. Drum circles are open to everyone—whether you’ve been playing percussion for years or have never picked up a drum before. Ken will help guide the circle so that each participant can find their place in the rhythm as the groove builds and evolves. Participants are encouraged to bring a drum, shaker, bucket, or any object that makes a joyful sound. A limited number of instruments will also be available to borrow, so newcomers are always welcome All ages and experience levels are invited to join. Come for a few minutes or stay for the whole circle as we gather, listen, and let the rhythm carry us.
