BHcare will host its 10th Annual A Chance to Shine annual fundraiser on Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Quarry Walk in Oxford. The family‑friendly event includes a remembrance walk, kids’ bike parade, live music, games, raffles, and activities, raising funds and awareness for BHcare’s mental health, substance use recovery, and domestic violence services.

Second Company Governor's Horse Guard Grounds

Saddle up and join the Second Company Governor's Horse Guard for a beautiful spring ride through scenic trails. This rain or shine equestrian event invites you to bring your horses and enjoy a morning of riding starting from their historic grounds.
Pre-registration is open now and ends on May 1. Suggested pre-event donation is $45.00, with same-day registration of $55.00. Connecticut State Troubadour Launches New Monthly Open Mic and Bluegrass Jam in Seymour
SEYMOUR, CT — A new creative hub is arriving in the Valley this spring. On Monday, May 4th, Great Hill United Methodist Church will host its inaugural Open Mic Night and Bluegrass Jam in the Fellowship Hall. The evening is free, open to the public, and hosted by the recently appointed 19th Connecticut State Troubadour, Charlie Widmer.
The event kicks off at 6:00 PM with an Open Bluegrass Jam led by renowned fiddler and CT Arts Hero Austin Scelzo. This jam is designed for players of all levels—from beginners taking their first steps in a group setting to seasoned pickers.
At 7:00 PM, the floor opens for the Open Mic, a welcoming space for musicians, poets, and storytellers to showcase their craft. To ensure a variety of voices are heard, performers are invited to share up to two selections or a 10-minute set. Spectators are encouraged to attend and enjoy the performances.
"This is a chance to share what makes the Valley special and connect with like-minded individuals," says Widmer. "Adding the bluegrass jam with Austin creates a full evening of community music-making that we hope will become a staple for local artists."
Complimentary coffee, tea, and light refreshments will be provided.

About Charlie Widmer: Charlie Widmer is a Swiss-American singer-songwriter and the current Connecticut State Troubadour. Known for his multi-genre versatility, he performs regularly across the region and is a dedicated advocate for the arts in Connecticut.
About Austin Scelzo: Austin Scelzo is a multi-instrumentalist, educator, and founder of the Connecticut Bluegrass Association. A recipient of the 2023 Connecticut Arts Hero award, he is a prominent figure in the New England bluegrass community.

This is the Annual Asher’s Answer 5K Run/Walk in honor of&nbsp;<a href="https://ashersanswer.org/about/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Asher Nathaniel Gibson.</a>
All proceeds will be used to provide support to our non-profit organization, <a href="https://ashersanswer.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Asher’s Answer</a>, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide financial support to families of children with rare trisomies.
This year, there will be games and activities for children under age 13, so feel free to bring the entire family!!!
NOTE: For safety and security purposes, race participants must be at least 13 yrs of age. Children younger than that can still come and participate in various games/activities while their parents race, but cannot race. Infant and toddlers may race with their parents only if they are transported in strollers or strapped to parents (ie body carriers).
