The Seymour Library will host Janine Katomski, President of the Eastern Connecticut Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA)Ms. Katomski will talk about the latest hearing loss technology, legal and medical rights and available local and state resources for support. The Library has received a grant to enhancing services for the hard of hearing--updates will be given after Ms. Katomski's talk.Registration is required for this talk. Seymour Library is pleased to have Max from the Kellogg Environmental Center bring at least two (maybe more) live Animal Ambassadors to this family friendly program.
The program hopes impart a greater appreciation for the wildlife that shares our environment learn . Come and learn about these amazing behaviors and important roles in our ecosystems.

Reptiles and Amphibians in Your Backyard: Making Yards and Human Spaces Herp-Friendly

The Seymour Library is pleased to again host Matt Yanarella. Matt is sharing his food interest and celebrating New England culinary history from the Revolutionary era in honor of America's 250th and renewed interest in the subject.Mr. Yanarella will be demonstrating classic New England cuisine with a tasting afterward. The menu will be dictated by whatever is in season--dishes such as johnnycakes, apple fritters and Native American dishes like succotash could be possibilities.Due to limited space registration is required. Join the Oxford Cultural Arts Commission for Gather &amp; Groove, a welcoming community drum circle led by local facilitator Ken Parker.
Together we’ll explore rhythm as a way to connect, relax, and create something spontaneous as a community. Drum circles are open to everyone—whether you’ve been playing percussion for years or have never picked up a drum before. Ken will help guide the circle so that each participant can find their place in the rhythm as the groove builds and evolves.
Participants are encouraged to bring a drum, shaker, bucket, or any object that makes a joyful sound. A limited number of instruments will also be available to borrow, so newcomers are always welcome 
All ages and experience levels are invited to join. Come for a few minutes or stay for the whole circle as we gather, listen, and let the rhythm carry us.

The Seymour Culture &amp; Arts Commission presents, in concert, the Silver Steel Pan Drum Band on July 25th at 6:00 p.m. at the Great Hill Hose Company, 140 Botsford Road, Seymour.&nbsp; The concert will be held rain or shine.&nbsp; The Hose Company will be selling hot dogs and hamburgers with all profits benefitting the Company.&nbsp; Non-perishable food items will be collected for the Food Bank.&nbsp; Please come and join us for an evening of great music.

Seymour Library is hosting Michael Langlois for a free evening book discussion on Wednesday August 12th at 6 pm. The doors will open at 5:30 pm for seating and light refreshments.The play to be discussed will be "The Tempest". The play written about 1610 is one of&nbsp; Shakespeare's most well known and loved tales and has been an inspiration for many works in literature, music, film and stage adaptions. The play can be seen as encompassing many motifs, themes and commentaries on colonialism, artistic creativity and feminism.Michael Langlois who will lead the discussion is a theatre artist, lecturer, performer and storyteller. He has directed productions throughout New England, served for twenty years as Artistic Director of Ashford Youth Theatre and more than a decade as Associate Artist with New London's Flock Theatre. Mr. Langlois has directed "The Tempest" as a stage production.Space is limited and registration is required but the book discussion is free. To enjoy and participate more fully the play should be read. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the Library's circulation desk with a valid library card. You do not have to be a resident of Seymour to register for this book discussion.
