Former Oxford Tax Collector Who Stole From the Town Transferred to Halfway House
Karen Guillet, who stole almost $250,000 from Oxford, served half of her prison sentence before the transfer was made last month.

Former Oxford Tax Collector Karen Guillet, who stole at least $243,902 from the town, has been transferred to a halfway house in Hartford after serving two years of her four-year prison sentence, reports the Valley Independent Sentinel.
The move, which occurred last month, is designed to help her transition back into the community and on average an inmate remains there for up to 120 days, the Valley Indy reports.
The town is still suing her and that case is pending as officials believe she stole possibly millions of dollars from the town. Oxford First Selectman George Temple told the Valley Sentinel that the town hopes to recoup “every penny” it can from Guillet.

At the time of her sentencing in November 2012, Guillet told the courtroom that she “betrayed the people of Oxford,” the Connecticut Post reported at the time.
According to court records, Guillet spent the money at upscale department stores, spas and vacations.
