The History of Christmas in Connecticut
Town Historian, Dorothy A. DeBisschop, will present an illustrated PowerPoint talk on the History of Christmas in Connecticut, on Dec. 6, at 2:30 p.m. Come hear surprising details of how the holiday was observed in Connecticut’s colonial times and how it changed over the years.
The Oxford Historical Society will feature a Christmas Bazaar at the Homestead during our December open houses, Dec. 6 and 20, from 2 to 4 p.m, 60 Towner Lane, Oxford. A variety of Christmas items and home-made jellies will be available, as well as other new and gently used items.
The colonial homestead will also feature a variety of Christmas decorations, plus a collection of different nativity scenes. The Society would appreciate the loan of unusual or older nativity scenes for the display. The nativity scenes can be displayed in the Homestead’s locked display cases. Persons who would like their nativity scenes displayed may contact Nancy Farnum at 203-888-0230.
