Kettletown Bridge Replacement Included In $10M State Funding Package

OXFORD, CT — A bridge at Kettletown State Park is slated for replacement as part of a new $10 million state funding package for improvements at parks and forests across Connecticut.

The State Bond Commission approved the funding Sept. 8. According to an analysis of the commission’s agenda, the money will pay for several projects, including the Kettletown bridge replacement.

The state has not said how much of the $10 million will be spent at Kettletown or when construction will begin.

The 605-acre park, which sits in Oxford and Southbury, suffered extensive damage during the August 2024 flooding. Its campground and the Pomeraug, Crest and Brook trails remain closed and will not reopen during the 2026 season, according to the state park’s website.

A reopening date has not been announced.

The park’s day-use areas remain open during regular hours, including the Miller Trail and youth group campsites. Swimming is not allowed.

The funding package also includes bathhouse replacements at Hammonasset Beach State Park and repairs to pedestrian and vehicle bridges in Naugatuck State Forest.

Kettletown State Park is located along Lake Zoar and has more than six miles of trails. Its campground includes 55 tent and recreational-vehicle sites and six cabins.
