Large Crowd Shuts Down Oxford Power Plant Meeting

The Fire Marshal ordered the meeting to end.

Last night hundreds of residents attended a meeting in Oxford regarding the town of Oxford and Competitive Power Ventures and their plans to construct a 785-megawatt (MW) nameplate capacity CPV Towantic Energy Center in Oxford.

The size of the crowd took Oxford officials by surprise and the meeting was ordered shut down by the Fire Marshal after just 15 minutes, Fox Connecticut reports.

First Selectman George R. Temple expressed surprise at the size of the crowd because the project has been approved and the company plans to contribute $112 million in taxes to the town, Fox Connecticut reports.
