LETTER: Oxford Residents Don't Won't Power Plant in Town
The Oxford resident urges local officials to realize the town doesn't want the power plant and its time for them to take a hike.

Letter to the Editor,
The article, CPV Opponents Plan To Continue Towantic Protests, in the March 2nd issue of (a local newspaper, not Oxford Patch) vividly portrays the flawed process being used to promote the proposed CPV power plant. For example:
The UConn study stating that the power plant will not have an impact on the local real estate market was bought and paid for by the developer, CPV. Are the conclusions suspect? Obviously.

George Temple declared the housing market in Oxford Greens to be sound and fit when he stated on the 2/22 Channel 8 noon news, “as a golfer who plays the Oxford Greens golf course many times it seems that every week I am hitting a different house.” This analysis proves what? Is this his impression of the health of the real estate market in Oxford?
Mr. Temple also states “we have cheerfully accepted a lot of CPV’s money over the past few years. This includes a fire truck, a pump station and not just taxes.” Was this part of an agreement that you made with CPV without voter approval?

How can you declare that we should be happy when the voters had no idea of what was going on behind closed doors? Are you saying that you know what is best for Oxford without asking for the input of your constituents?
Listen to the voters, Mr. Temple. They have rejected your agreements with CPV twice! Are you going to ask a judge to declare that he or she knows what’s best for Oxford? If this process occurs you will be demeaning the system once again by ignoring the voter’s wishes.
Just as the GOP nationally is telling the voters that they know best (do not support the front runner Donald Trump), you are doing the same, Mr. Temple by stating that you know best for Oxford. Wrong! Dead wrong!
Wake Up Oxford! The people who voted you in office, Mr. Temple, have made it very clear that we do not want the power plant, we don’t want the tax money ... from CPV. Now you are charged with cleaning up your mess. You can start by telling CPV to take a hike!
