Brookfield is bucolic. No other way to describe it. Even The New York Times had to dig back to the 1920s to find some hint of a shady existence, discovering that for a few minutes, likely, Brookfield was a stop off for bootleggers. 

How things have changed. Today it seems a moonshine runner would be just as likely to be broken into as seized for evidence in Brookfield. 

And it's not coming from out of town: Local kids are helping , hitting open cars and homes. Here's how Officer Michael Zezza put it after telling Patch's own  about a rise in larcenies:

You can't help but feel bad for any victim of a crime, no matter the circumstances. But Garfield Reid's retelling of what was stolen from his home recently is not your average cop story. It unfolded all the way over in New Haven but if you love heart-warming tales of honesty, this is a gem. Lesson: Criminals are criminals. They don't think twice about hurting people, even if they are 80 years old and really, really generous.
