New Middle School Project To Impact Field Availability In Oxford

Officials are also in talks about where to hold the summer camp this year.

OXFORD, CT — The Parks and Recreation Commission met earlier this month and there were several news and notes from the meeting, according to minutes of the meeting.

Director Kyra Nesteriak told members that construction of the new middle school is expected to begin in June 2019 and be completed in August 2020. Little Great Oak will be used as a staging area and the department will lose the use of the fields during that time period.

She said she is working with the new owners of Colonial Tavern to see if they can come to an agreement to keep holding summer camp there. The Jackson Cove pavilion rental fees will remain the same this year.

Parking and boat launch fees will be reviewed in the early spring. The Jackson Cove pavilion roof needs repair.

The Lion's Club has a $5,000 grant, which they wanted to spend on kitchen equipment for the pavilion.
