New Oxford BOE Member Picked, Some Say Politics At Play: Report
There was a bit of controversy over the selection.
OXFORD, CT — A bit of a political controversy in Oxford. When Democratic Board of Education member Amy Cote resigned her position it left a vacancy on the school board.
The Democratic Town Committee nominated Ellen Fox, a retired teacher, to fill the spot, the Republican-American reports. But the Board of Selectmen's two Republicans voted for Debbie Sherman to fill the vacancy as they said Sherman was a former school board member and a volunteer in the schools.
Democratic Party leaders expressed disappointment that their selection was ignored by the Republicans, who have a majority on the board of selectmen, the Rep-Am reports.
