Obit: Mary Ann (Chernock) Deyo, 100, of Oxford

She was an avid bowler and NASCAR race fan.

Mary Ann (Chernock) Deyo, age 100, of Oxford peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 8, 2014 in Griffin Hospital.

Born in Queens, New York on March 6, 1914 of immigrant Czech parents, Mary was one of seven brothers and sisters.

She was predeceased by her husband, George W. Deyo. Mary will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She loved gardening, was a wonderful cook and enjoyed family gatherings.

She was an avid bowler and NASCAR race fan and enjoyed going on cruises and her favorite meal was lobster.

Mary was a devoted communicant of St. Thomas Apostle Church in Oxford.

She is survived by two sons, George W. Deyo, Jr. (Mary K. Clifford Deyo) of Oxford and Terrance J. Deyo (Susan L. Deyo) of Seymour, three grandchildren, Heather Kochinchak (Jonathan) of Sandy Hook, Karen L. Giana of East Berlin and Sheri L. Deyo of Wallingford, five great-grandchildren, Jacob Deyo, Mikayla, Rachel and Kelly Giana and Hunter Cole Kokinchak. Memorial Services will be private and at the convenience of her family. There are no calling hours.

The Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street, Seymour is in charge of arrangements. Donations in remembrance of Mary can be made to the Griffin Hospital Hospice Program, 130 Division St., Derby CT 06418. Friends may leave condolences at www.millerwardfuneralhome.com.
