Obituary: Edward Peter Spruck, Jr., 76, of Oxford

OXFORD, CT – Edward Peter Spruck, Jr., 76, beloved husband of Rita (Bourgeois) Spruck, entered peaceful rest in his home on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, surrounded by family.


Born in Yonkers, N.Y., on May 22, 1943, he was the son of the late Edward P. Spruck Sr., and Frances A. (Kalecka) Spruck. Ed retired from Osram Sylvania after working as a quality control manager and then a materials manager. He graduated from Fairfield University with a degree in Chemistry. He was involved in Oxford politics, serving on the Board of Education, Board of Assessments and Appeals, School Building Committee, Board of Finance, and also attended many town meetings.

He loved long walks, photography, gardening, reading, and history. Most of all, Ed was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time with his neighbors and friends Matthew and Thomas Romeo who he always held dear.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, survivors include his loving children, Edward Spruck III and his wife, Irene of New Canaan, Kristin Sousa and her husband, Norman of Mystic; his 4 cherished grandchildren, Natalie, Charlotte, Allison and Nicholas. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Rita and her family would like to express gratitude to Kofi Genfi for his exceptional care and attention during his brief time with Ed. Special thanks to Dorrell Humphrey-Whiteman for her loving care of Ed since August. She developed a close relationship with Ed and his family who all have a special place in their hearts for her.
