Obituary: Lawrence J. LaReau, Sr., 89, of Oxford

He retired as an engineer from Raytheon Optical Systems in Danbury and was a former resident of Heritage Village in Southbury.

Oxford – Mr. Lawrence J. LaReau, Sr., 89, of Oxford Greens, died unexpectedly on Friday, February 10th in his home. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 56 years Barbara LaReau. Mr. LaReau was born September 5, 1927, in Bridgeport, a son of the late Emile and Alice (St. Arnaud) LaReau.

He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. He retired as an engineer from Raytheon Optical Systems in Danbury and was a former resident of Heritage Village in Southbury. He is survived by his son, Lawrence J. LaReau Jr. of Mt. Tabor, NJ; four daughters, Laurie Reinheimer of Oxford, with whom he lived, Christie Lynch of Danbury, Amy Schwarzkop of Oxford and Melissa Reinke of Danbury; two brothers, Paul LaReau and Emile LaReau, 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 18th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Road, Oxford. No calling hours. Arrangements by Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758540, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8540
