Obituary: Robert John Hunchak, Sr.

Oxford man was Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Robert John Hunchak, Sr., age 81, of Oxford, beloved husband of Marilyn Kovacs Hunchak, passed away on December 8, 2011 in Griffin Hospital. 

In addition to his devoted wife of 58 years, Marilyn, he will be lovingly remembered by his family including five children, Sharon Mulligan, of Trumbull, Robert Hunchak, Jr., and his wife, Joanne, of Stratford, Mary Lou Hunchak, of Morris, Pamela Ward, and her husband, James, of Oxford, Christopher Hunchak, and his wife, Sharon, of Stratford; ten grandchildren, Brian Mulligan, of Bridgeport, Erin Mannetti, of North Carolina, Caitlin Mulligan, of Trumbull, Michael and Kristen Hunchak, both of Stratford, Allison O'Day, of Bethlehem, DJ Hunchak, of Morris, Kelly, of Oxford, Christopher Hunchak, Jr., and Justin Hunchak, both of Stratford; one sister-in-law, Cynthia Patrick, and her husband, Peter, of Fairfield; several nieces and nephews. 

Robert was predeceased by his parents, John and Madelyn Genci Hunchak, and sister, Elaine Wasikowski.

Born in Bridgeport, Robert resided most of his life in Fairfield before moving to Oxford six years ago. He was a graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, class of 1948, and attended University of Bridgeport until being called to serve in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Robert worked as a purchasing manager for T-Bar Incorporated for many years, later retiring as a manufacturing representative in the semi- conductor industry. 

Robert enjoyed his home, and spending time with his family. He also liked catching up with friends while playing golf on Fairfield's Par 3 and Smith Richardson courses. In more recent years, Robert and Marilyn would winter in Naples, Florida. 

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3 to 7pm in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. His Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday at 10am directly in Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield. Interment will military honor will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford.
