Oxford Board of Education Still Deliberating On New Schools Leader

The Oxford Board of Education hopes to select someone at its September 9 meeting.

The new school year in Oxford begins on August 27 and it appears a new superintendent of schools will not be in place by then.

It’s also possible a candidate won’t be hired until October, a top school official told the Waterbury Republican-American.

The Board of Education hopes to hire a new schools leader at its September 9 meeting, but that is not set in stone, the paper reports. Additionally, whoever is hired will likely need to give 30 days notice.

A total of 14 people have applied for the position. Finance Director Rosemary Hanson will serve on an interim basis.

The Board selected CABE Search Services, an executive educational search firm to facilitate the search process. Dr. Mary Broderick, CABE Search Consultant led the team.

The first step was to seek input through focus groups to learn about strengths and challenges as well as leadership qualities desired in the next educational leader for Oxford. Focus groups included school staff, parents, elected officials, business and services club leaders, and other community members in order to have a broad range on constituents provide input to the search process.
