Oxford Budget Heads To Public Hearing Monday

OXFORD, CT — Oxford’s next budget step is here.

Residents are set to weigh in Monday night as town officials open a public hearing on the proposed 2026-27 budget. The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 20 at Quaker Farms School, 30 Great Oak Road, according to the town’s legal notice.

The proposal heading to hearing is larger than the town’s current budget. Board of Finance documents show the recommended 2026-27 total budget at $63,269,389, up from the adopted 2025-26 total of $59,466,187.

That works out to an increase of about 6.4 percent year over year. The same packet shows the amount to be raised from the grand list climbing from $45,464,330 to $49,057,260, an increase of about 7.9 percent.

The school side is also higher in the new plan. The finance board packet lists a recommended Board of Education budget of $38 million, up from $36,269,317 in the current adopted budget, or about 4.8 percent.

Town spending is up by an even larger percentage. Total municipal expenditures rise from $23,196,870 in the current budget to $25,269,389 in the proposed budget, an increase of about 8.9 percent.

The same summary shows the total mill rate increasing from 20.01 to 21.17, or about 5.8 percent. Under the notice, the hearing will allow residents to submit written and oral comments before the budget process moves ahead.
