Oxford Hazardous Waste Collection Canceled Ahead Of Nor'easter

OXFORD, CT — A household hazardous waste collection scheduled for Saturday has been canceled because of the heavy wind and rain expected from an approaching nor'easter.

The Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments announced the cancellation Friday morning.

"We want to ensure the safety of our residents and staff," NVCOG Communications and Community Engagement Director Desira Blanchard said in an email to Patch.

The next household hazardous waste collection will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Ansonia Transfer Station, 1 North Division St., Blanchard said. Additional details and new promotional materials will be released before the event.

The canceled collection had been scheduled to accept paint, gasoline, motor oil, pesticides, cleaners and other household chemicals from Oxford residents and people living in 14 other participating communities.

NVCOG said the decision was made because heavy rain and strong winds are expected from Friday into Saturday.
