Oxford Hires Former Naugatuck Zoning Official as New ZEO

The town finally made a decision in choosing an applicant for the position, which has been vacant since August.

The Oxford Board of Selectmen made a decision Wednesday to hire former Naugatuck zoning official Steve Macary as the town’s new zoning enforcement officer, the Republican-American reports.

First Selectman George R. Temple told the paper he supported the Planning and Zoning Commission’s recommendation of Macary but admitted he had reservations due to accusations of ethics violations against Macary while he was in Naugatuck.

Macary has 10 years of zoning experience and will start on Monday.

Temple told the paper that Macary was obviously very qualified and he had heard good reports about him.

According to the paper, Macary will receive an annual salary of $36,377 getting pay increases after both one and two years and will be subject to a 180-day probationary period.

The hiring of a new zoning enforcement officer in Oxford had been continuously delayed. At their Oct. 1 meeting, the board decided to hold off on hiring one of two officials recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission. Last Tuesday, Temple cancelled a special meeting where the only item on the agenda was the hiring of a new zoning official.
