Oxford Historical Society 9th Annual Peach Festival
Peach Festival to feature Early Houses of Oxford on August 29

The Oxford Historical Society will hold its annual Peach Festival on Saturday, August 29, from 4-7 p.m. at St. Peters Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall. St. Peters Church is located at the corner of Dutton Road and Route 67 in Oxford.
Admission to this event is $1.00. The Peach Festival will offer home-made peach shortcake, fresh peaches and Rich Farm peaches and cream ice cream. Coffee, tea and water will also be available.
This years theme, Early Houses of Oxford, showcases a series of captioned pictures of the towns homes and churches that were built before 1899. The wide range of images includes those taken by the WPA during the Depression Era plus many others from 1976, 1997 and 2015. Also featured will be a display showing Oxfords historic peach industry and the Hale Peach Farm.

The attached photo shows Brenan’s Shebeen, Located on Route 67 in Oxford Center. The building has seen many transformations. Shown here between 1910 1939, it was called Gablers Inn. Built in 1795, it has served as a hotel, a post office, a private dwelling and a restaurant. The photographic history of this and nearly 200 other early Oxford structures will be on display at the 9th Annual Oxford Historical Society Peach Festival on Saturday, August 29, at St. Peters Church Hall from 4-7 p.m. Along with the exhibit, visitors are invited to sample homemade peach shortcake with fresh peaches and Rich Farm peaches and cream ice cream.
Oxfords Town Historian, Dorothy DeBisschop, explained that owners of historic buildings are invited to submit vintage photos of their homes for scanning and inclusion in the exhibit. Residents wishing to share pictures may leave them at the Oxford Public Library addressed to Mrs. DeBisschop or contact her at 203 910-4574 to set up an appointment. A scanner will also be available at the Peach Festival for those who wish to bring their photos at that time.
