OXFORD HISTORICAL SOCIETY HOSTS VINTAGE VEHICLE SHOW

The Oxford Historical Society will host its first Vintage Vehicle Show on Sunday, June 1, from 1-4 p.m. on the grounds of the Twitchell-Rowland Homestead Museum, 60 Towner Lane in Oxford.  In case of rain, the event will be held on Sunday, June 15, at the same time.  Admission is free and refreshments will be served.  The public is asked to park on the side of the road except for those persons requiring handicapped parking.

A variety of old-time farm machines, cars and trucks are expected at this event, including a 1958 John Deere tractor restored by Don Rich.  The tractor was purchased new for Ajello's Farm in 1958, and Don remembers it being delivered by train to the dealer in Watertown when he was 6 or 7 years old.  Those were prosperous times for farmers, and tractors were replaced approximately every 5 years.  Eventually, the tractor ended up behind the barn, unused and rusting away.  This bothered Don, and eventually he went to work on what he calls "a pile of junk", sandblasting the rust with the help of Maggie Licnikas, restoring the engine to running condition, and finally, buying the old tractor its signature John Deere trademark yellow and green paint from a professional painter.

Other vehicles promised to the show include a 1952 8N Ford farm tractor, a 1911 and a 1915 Model T Ford car, a 1949 Crosley automobile, a 1947 John Deere Model M tractor, a 1963 Studebaker mail truck, a 1952 Massey-Harris tractor and a 1917 Model T tractor.  Additional cars and tractors are expected.
