An Oxford man accused of killing his estranged wife and shooting his mother-in-law appeared briefly in Milford Superior Court on Monday, the Republican-American reports.

According to the Hartford Courant, Scott Gellatly, 46, allegedly broke into the Oxford home of his wife’s parents, Douglas and Merry Jackson, on the morning of May 7 where he fatally shot his wife Lori Gellatly and seriously injured his mother-in-law, Merry Jackson.

Gellatly is facing several counts including murder, attempted murder, first-degree assault, home invasion, first-degree burglary and first-degree robbery. According to the Republican-American, Gellatly entered a pro-forma, not guilty plea in June, which is implemented to keep court proceedings moving.

Gellatly’s public defender, David Egan said Gellatly is currently undergoing a psychiatric evaluation and a report is being prepared, the paper reports.

Egan does not expect the report to be ready by the date of Gellatly’s next court date, which is set for Nov. 5. He is being imprisoned in lieu of a $2 million bond.
