Oxford Man Injured After Driving Car Into River Near Mini Golf Course Saturday Night

Man sustains facial injuries.

A local man suffered multiple facial fractures and cuts after driving his car into the Little River near a local miniature golf course Saturday night, according to a police report on file at the Oxford Resident Trooper’s Office.

Roy Davies, 65, of 189 Riggs St., Oxford, lost control of his 2005 Nissan Altima as he was driving northbound on Route 67 around 7 p.m. Saturday, the report states.

For unknown reasons, Davies traveled off the right shoulder and into the southbound lane of Route 67 as he attempted to negotiate a turn, according to the report.

The car struck several objects before turning left sharply and continuing back onto the northbound lane; it crossed into southbound traffic and just missed an oncoming vehicle as it continued across the parking lot of the at 325 Oxford Road, or Route 67, the report states.

The car continued down into the Little River where it came to a final resting spot, the report states.

Oxford Police Officer Gary Soules, volunteer firefighters and ambulance personal and a few witnesses entered the water in an attempt to get the driver out safely, the report states.

Oxford Ambulance transported Davies to Waterbury Hospital where he was eventually stabilized, according to the report.

During the accident, the vehicle hit a Connecticut Light & Power utility pole, knocking out power to about 850 Oxford residents for about two-and-a-half hours, the report states.

Davies, the only person injured, was in stable condition as of Monday. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
