UPDATE: Oxford Man Stable After Serious Crash

A 27-year-old Oxford man is in stable condition at Waterbury Hospital after suffering serious injuries when he was ejected from his Jeep Wrangler following a head-on collision on Oxford Road (Route 67) in town late Wednesday night.

Sean R. Blatchley, of 56 Condon Road, suffered incapacitating internal and external injuries; he was treated on scene by Oxford Ambulance EMTs, who took BlatchleyHis condition could not immediately be verified as of Thursday morning. A hospital spokesman confimed Thursday night that Blatchley was in stable condition. 

The accident occurred just before 11 p.m. about three-tenths-of-a-mile north of the Old State Road and Route 67 intersection in Oxford near Jesse's Barbershop, according to a police report. Blatchley’s car crossed the double yellow dividing lines and entered the southbound travel lane of Oxford Road; it collided head-on with a tractor trailer driven by Joseph Mudlock, 58, of Wilkes Barre, Pa., the report states.

Mudlock told police he had body pain and was treated at the scene by Oxford Ambulance EMTs, who also transported him to Waterbury Hospital.

Blatchley was not wearing a seatblet, according to the report. His 1992 Jeep sustained severe front end and front driver side damage. Quality Auto Body towed it from the scene.

The tractor trailer Mudlock was driving sustained heavy front end damage and was removed by Hilarios Heavy Duty Towing.

The Oxford Fire Department assisted with the oil spill and stopped much of the oil from entering the nearby Little River by using Speedy Dry and absorbant boom, Fire Chief Scott Pelletier said. Between 25 and 30 Oxford firefighters responded. 

The state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection also responded and Connecticut Tank Removal helped with the cleanup. 

The case will remain active pending further investigation, according to the police report, which was taken by Oxford Officer Dennis D’Archangelo.
