Oxford Names Teacher Of The Year

An Oxford teacher was selected after nominations from parents, students, and staff.

OXFORD, CT — A Great Oak Elementary School teacher has been named Oxford Public Schools’ 2026 Teacher of the Year, district officials announced.

Superintendent of Schools Ralph Marino Jr. announced June 5 that Meaghan Angelovic, a third-grade teacher at Great Oak Elementary School, received the districtwide honor.

Angelovic was selected after the district’s Teacher of the Year Committee reviewed nominations submitted by parents, students and staff across Oxford Public Schools, Marino said in a letter to the school community.

The committee is made up of past recipients of the award, according to Marino.

“Choosing a single recipient is always an incredibly challenging task, and this year was no exception,” Marino said.

Marino said Angelovic stood out among “an extraordinary field of talent” because of the impact she has had on her students.

Those who nominated Angelovic praised her instructional work, empathy and ability to build relationships with students.

“She has a wonderful gift for making every student feel seen, valued, and loved,” one nomination said, according to the district. “She builds confidence in her students, encourages them to believe in themselves, and creates a classroom environment where they feel safe to learn and grow.”

Another nomination cited Angelovic’s ability to understand students beyond academics.

“What stands out most is how deeply she gets to know each individual student, not just academically, but personally,” the nomination said, according to the district. “She takes the time to understand every child’s unique strengths and areas where they may need extra support, and she meets them exactly where they are.”

The district also thanked the other finalists for this year’s award, as well as the members of the Teacher of the Year Committee.

Angelovic is expected to be formally recognized at the district’s convocation in August.
