Oxford Peach Festival on Saturday
Historical Society to honor Oxford service men and women from the American Revolution through the present day.

The Oxford Historical Society will present its 8th Annual Peach Festival on Saturday, August 23, from 4-7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Hall. St. Peter’s Church is located on the corner of Dutton Road and Route 67 in Oxford.
Peach shortcake featuring fresh peaches from Oxford’s Belinsky Farm and peaches and cream ice cream from Rich Farm will be served. Coffee, tea and water will be available.
In commemoration of the upcoming 150th Anniversary of the truce at Appomattox and the close of the Civil War, this year’s Peach Festival theme is “Hometown Heroes: Service Men and Women of Oxford.” The centerpiece of the display is a collection of letters from soldier Albert Kimberley written to his wife, Abigail, before his death in Baton Rouge in 1863. These letters provide a fascinating picture of a soldier’s everyday life during the War Between the States. Written in the spidery script of the 19th Century, the correspondence was transcribed by Ashley Sanders for easy readability.
