Oxford Residents Can Dispose Of Hazardous Waste Saturday

OXFORD, CT — Oxford residents can dispose of paint, gasoline, pesticides and other household hazardous waste during a free regional collection Saturday.

The collection will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ansonia Public Works, 1 North Division St.

Residents must bring proof of residency, such as a driver's license or tax bill. Up to 50 pounds of household waste will be accepted from each vehicle.

Accepted materials include latex- and oil-based paints, stains, varnishes, drain and oven cleaners, bleach, adhesives, fluorescent light bulbs, mercury thermometers, fire extinguishers and full or partially full aerosol containers containing chemicals.

Motor oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, antifreeze, brake fluid, pool chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides and other lawn and garden chemicals will also be collected.

Car batteries, tires, smoke detectors, ammunition, fireworks, medicines, syringes, asbestos, empty containers and commercial or industrial waste will not be accepted.

People bringing materials should remain in their vehicles. Containers will not be returned and should be sealed before arrival.

The event is open to residents of Oxford and 14 other participating communities. It is organized by the Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments.
