Oxford School Budget Request Reduced: Report

The overall number for next year's budget request is still increasing, just not as high as what school officials had requested.

OXFORD, CT — The Board of Finance approved a $367,754 reduction from the Board of Education's budget request for fiscal 2017-18, which increases spending by 1.7 percent, reports the Republican-American.

School officials had sought a 3 percent spending hike. The schools budget for next year will be $29.3 million. There was a proposal to cut the request to a 1 percent or a 1.5 percent increase but that failed as members decided on 1.7 percent.

School officials will now have to make the necessary reductions.
