Oxford Selectman Switches Political Parties
The political switch was announced Tuesday.

Written by Kathy Johnson, Oxford Board of Selectmen member
OXFORD, CT – It is after a great deal of personal reflection that I have made the decision to change my party registration from Democrat to Unaffiliated. As a lifelong Democrat this decision has weighed heavily upon me, but I feel that my party on a national, state and local level has abandoned its principles in favor of political expediency and self-serving personal aggrandizement.
My loyalty is to the townspeople of Oxford and I feel that the Democratic party has not shared that concern. As a minority selectman, I have not always agreed with the current administration but I respect and share their goals to bring relief to the Oxford taxpayer.

It is my duty to represent the people with dignity. I am dedicated to the concerns of the people in town and when that conflicts with the agenda of the Democratic Town Committee, I will always be on the side of the people. We should not return to the days of bickering and party infighting as that accomplishes nothing.
It is not all about getting elected. We should have the dignity and reputation of our town as our first priority. I will continue to support the current administration when such support is justified but I will also serve as a critic when I do not agree. The town is bigger than both parties and I will always respect the importance of all Oxford citizens regardless of their party affiliation.
